POF Search by Name: There Is No Surname Directory
Published October 16, 2026 · Reading time: 13 min
In short: POF search by name is not a feature. Plenty of Fish (pof.com and the app) surfaces people through Meet Me and filters, behind a login. That is authenticated discovery, not a people directory. You cannot paste a legal name into POF and pull a member. Premium buys messaging / filter leverage, not a spelling box. Old Google hits are mostly stale pages, not live cards.
Differentiation:
- Meet Me / filters / web-vs-app → Plenty of Fish profile search
- This page = can you type a name into POF?

POF never shipped a stranger-facing name query
People arriving from Google want Facebook-style results: type Jessica Miller, open her POF card. POF’s product is who the site thinks you should meet, not who you spelled.
Capability map:
- Public name / surname directory: No.
- Read the display name after Meet Me serves a card: Yes, if ranking showed them.
- Filter by age, location, interests: Yes, as browse power, still not a legal-name retrieve.
- Email / phone lookup: No. Login keys.
- Google as live POF census: No (stale SERPs do not equal today’s private card).
Why “it’s a website” does not create name search
Plenty of Fish is older than swipe-first apps, so rumours persist that pof.com is a searchable phone book. A URL in the browser only means you can log in without an app store. Session + location + Meet Me still decide which cards exist for you. That is the opposite of a civil registry.
Same trap as “if it is on the web, Google indexed every member.” Historically some dating-site HTML leaked. Live private cards generally did not become a name API.
What a name on a POF card actually is
Display names are labels. They can be:
- A real first name
- A nickname
- A handle that looks like a username
None of those is a query you can re-run against the whole member table. Confirmation after a card appears ≠ fetch.
Myths to drop
| Myth | Reality |
|---|---|
| Type last name, get the member | No official results page |
| Premium = name box | Extra filters / messages, not a registry |
| Google “Name POF” = live profile | Usually news, bait, or old pages |
| Username search like Instagram | Not a guaranteed stranger directory |
| Missing them in Meet Me = they left | Inconclusive |
If you only have a name
A name without age band + city + a face you would recognise is a collision, especially in US metros. Build a biographical brief instead of staring at Meet Me for a spelling miracle.
Track by name uses first name, age, city, gender, orientation, and optional photo on supported apps. It does not become a live POF name directory and does not add a dedicated POF scan page. POF is guide-only in Trackly’s dedicated-track sense.
| Approach | Name as query? | Live POF card on demand? |
|---|---|---|
| Meet Me + filters | No | Only if ranking shows them |
| pof.com in a browser | No | Same discovery, different shell |
| Google name + POF | No | Stale / unrelated |
| Trackly bio signals | Clue, not POF API | No, signals only |
Bottom line
No, you cannot run a POF search by name the way you search public records or Instagram. Meet Me is not a surname index. If you need structure, use a biographical brief via Track by name and treat any match as a signal, never proof they are on Plenty of Fish.
