Does Bumble Show Inactive Profiles?

Updated September 2026 · Reading time: 25 min

In short: Bumble is not designed to parade clearly inactive profiles in Discover. Paused and deleted accounts usually stop appearing to new people. Low-activity profiles are the gray zone, they may still surface sometimes. Incognito is not “inactive”; it changes visibility rules. Bumble does not stamp “inactive” on cards for strangers. Seeing someone ≠ online today; missing someone ≠ deleted forever.

This page answers whether inactive profiles are shown. For how you infer activity when you already see someone, use: how to tell if a Bumble profile is active. Pillar: find a Bumble profile. Hinge twin: does Hinge show inactive profiles.

What “inactive” means on Bumble (define it first)

SituationAccount still exists?Likely in new Discover?Notes
PausedYesUsually noHidden from new people on purpose
DeletedNo (or being removed)NoShould leave recommendation surfaces
Rarely opens the appYesSometimesQuiet ≠ removed
Incognito (when available)YesPartial / gatedNot the same as Pause or delete
Active dailyYesOften (if prefs match)Still not guaranteed in your deck

Why the vocabulary messes people up

  • Inactive sounds like a system label. For strangers, it usually is not.
  • Paused is a product action with a clear visibility effect.
  • Incognito is about their card rules, not a last-login stamp.
  • Ghosted in chat is social behavior, not a Discover status.
  • Deleted is account removal, different from Pause.

What Bumble generally prefers to show

Dating products rank for reachable matches. Filling Discover with abandoned ghosts hurts conversion. Practically:

  • Paused → usually out of new Discover.
  • Deleted → should leave live surfaces.
  • Quiet but eligible → may still appear.
  • Your filters / distance / Travel → can hide active people from you.

Beeline / Premium shelves still prefer people who can respond. Do not treat them as inactivity museums.

Seeing a card vs “they’re active today”

Eligibility ≠ opened-the-app-this-morning.

Why “I still see them” / “I never see them” both mislead

Still see them: quiet account, residual eligibility, ranking luck, not a live GPS ping. Never see them: Pause, Incognito, filters, distance, Travel, undersampling, or they’re on another mode (dating vs BFF).

Off-app context (optional)

If the job is confirming presence across apps, not auditing Discover inactivity badges, use biographical matching:

  • first name, approximate age, city, gender/orientation, optional photo;
  • verify manually;
  • no phone/email primary keys.

Trackly may return match signals when available and does not notify the person. Absence ≠ inactive certificate; presence ≠ daily opens.

Bottom line

Does Bumble show inactive profiles? Not as a labeled museum of ghosts. Pause/delete usually leave new Discover; quiet accounts may still appear; Incognito ≠ inactive. Separate product visibility from wishful stories.
